At no other time in a woman's life is there more of a need to be extra careful and vigilant about looking after yourself. "Give up this and give up that" you are told, "Eat nutritious food, get good sleep" and so on.

The most natural processes in life; pregnancy, birth and growing up…… the constant repetition happens, in order to recreate life. By default, we the human race should have the process perfect, so where do we go wrong? During pregnancy, as the new life develops, added weight and strain both mentally and physically adds extra pressure to the mother-to-be.

In the middle of my fourth pregnancy, my back finally protested with a prolapsed, herniated disc causing excruciating, debilitating pain; a difficult time at best. Years later, after constant medical and chiropractic treatments, I came across a self styled spinal adjuster on the Sunshine Coast who said that if he could work with every woman immediately after childbirth, he could save much trouble and agony later. I felt better after his manipulations and then the pain came back.

When I first read about the Alexander Technique I started to really understand my condition. I learnt in the lessons that followed that back problem started long before my fourth pregnancy through poor use habits. Gradually, through the Technique, little by little I peeled back the layers; I learnt where I had gone wrong and had caused my own difficulties; from very subtle to very gross levels.
